The idea of an exhibition dedicated to FIBER ART comes from the dialogues among arts ,materials and time.

PHOTOGRAPHY works by: Renato Cerisola, Frédéric Gédovius

Meetings with specialists of textile art, presentations of the collections and much else are scheduled during the exhibition  . The calendar of events can be seen on Sinopia blog.

A Raffaella Lupi’s project linked to the textile art is inaugurated at the Sinopia FIBER ART gallery : fashion and  the mood of living.

Fiber art ,also called “Art fabric”, “Textile Art” or “Fiber Works” is an artistic expanding subject.

When we speak about applied arts, we often wonder where craft ends and where art begins. In Raffaella Lupi’ s project the answer is not to be searched in an assumed separation, boundary or division, but in the closest connection between Arts and Knowledge. That’s why this exhibition ( that is part of a wider project about applied or “valuable” art, like ceramic, glass, and so on…) collects and explores that deep territory where contemporary art, craftmanship, design and antiques live side by side.

FIBER ART, fashion and mood of living is a contemporary experimental exhibition devised as a path of senses along fashion, art and the mood of living. The Sinopia becomes a place where you can see valuable textile art works, non only contemporary, blended with the  precious collection of the gallery.

In the “path” works by Lydia Predominato, Tania and Marussia Kalimerovi, Luisa Longo, Claudio Varone and  Anneke Copier show the highest example of contemporary textile sculpture.

Also photography finds its place in this exploration with Frédéric Gedovis and Renato Cerisiola’s works.

The exploration of this living together continues by collocating the ContaminArte’s collection of design and furniture and the decoupage works with antique fabrics of Jill Barnes-Dacey, “ingredients” which are also related to art, fashion and to the mood of living as well as the essences of the Italian and international artistic perfumery, Cherry. There will be works of creative tailoring by Vally Valli and Varone with Mirjam Nuver. Finally the “timeless” effect, where the new and the old blend, is eventually realized with the presentation of a collection of fabrics by the Lisio factory and a selection of dresses and accessories from private collections. Among these precious garments of the early 1900s  by Mariano Fortuny from Venice are included.

FIBER ART

Fiber art is a trend of contemporary art that originated in Italy with the futuristic avant-garde.

With the slogan ” what is flexible is textile ” Fiber Art is based on  fibers, especially yarns, cords, papers, fabrics, felt, metal wires, plastics, plastic nets, grass etc.

As an artistic expression it reached a linguistic and experimental autonomy compared to the art of traditional weaving in 1962 at the Lausanne International Biennial Fair promoted by the ” Centre international de la tapis serie ancienne e moderne”. For the first time textile artists presented themselves as a trend and they officially coined the terms ” Fiber Art ” and ” Textile Art “. Since then many artists have moved in this direction and have blended tradition and innovation.
